Successful Year for Tourism in Niagara

The traditional busy season for Niagara Falls begins around May 24 and then starts to slow down after Labour Day. With a more wet summer than normal, it apparently didn’t stop tourists from traveling to Niagara Falls for a fun-filled family vacation. Noted in recent reports, there was approximately 10% increase in tourists from 2016 to 2017. There are many factors that could have caused the increase in tourists. Between Canada’s 150, to a hosting a live American talk show these could have been a few of the contributing factors to the increase in tourists.

Increased Tourists in Niagara Falls

2017 marked Canada’s 150 birthday, making it a big year for many major cities. Niagara Falls is a heavy tourist area, it’s no wonder the city coordinated a marketing plan to promote the country’s milestone birthday. The marketing plan worked closely with the province and federal government, to create a campaign that would draw tourists from around the globe.

Thriving Business for Niagara-on-the-Lake

Many tourists who visit Niagara Falls typically make a quick detour to Niagara-on-the-Lake during their stay. It is the perfect destination for those who enjoy great shopping, elegant dining or an afternoon wine tasting. From new winery and brewery developments in Niagara to premium outlet shopping, it’s the perfect attraction for many. This year, the Wayne Gretzky distillery and winery opened its doors to the public, adding to the list of Niagara Tourism properties.

What to Expect for Coming Years

With additional properties on their way to being complete in the next few years, it may create a sustainable growth of tourism in Niagara. A new theater is said to be developed in 2019, potentially drawing additional tourists who are interested in the potential list of shows that may be put on. Or the new go-cart track being built on Clifton Hill may draw families down for a fun-filled weekend.

Niagara is the perfect place for many tourists, offering a wide variety of attractions suited for the whole family. Not only does the tourism in Niagara Falls boost their local economy, but it plays a large contributing factor for the region as a whole. The increase in tourists assists in supporting Niagara’s regional economic development. Tourism has been a large industry within Niagara for many years, contributing to additional jobs, income, and growth.
