Ontario Craft Brewery Has Eye on Niagara Land

Owen Hughes

Move aside, wineries: an Ontario craft brewery is coming to the Niagara region and is taking it by storm! Nickel Brook Brewing Co., a craft beer company, is looking forward to moving into the Niagara area to build a state-of-the-art brewery. Nickel Brook Brewing Co. will be able to provide benefits when moving into Niagara’s region, such as the local economy and towards the tourist sector. But who is Nickel Brook Brewery?

Who is Nickel Brook Brewery?

Nickel Brook Brewery was started between two brothers, John and Peter Romano, who originally started Better Bitters in Burlington. As Better Bitters started to become larger and larger, the brothers realized the potential a craft beer business could have, and made the executive decision to open Nickel Brook Brewery. From starting in 2005, Nickel Brook is one of the leading players within the Ontario Craft Beer industry that offers world class beers.  They have set their eyes on placing a craft brewery development in the Niagara Region-owned property in St. Catharines. Nickel Brook offers a variety of well known award-winning beers, including Cause & Effect Blonde, Naughty Neighbour APA, and Head Stock IPA.

A Flip of the Coin Goes to Nickel Brook

Nickel Brook has their eyes on the Niagara area to build a 30,000-square-foot brewery to provide craft beer and a unique experience that is usually found in the wineries, except now with beer! Nickel Brook is able to bring further diversity to the market and contribute to Niagara growth, increasing the craft beer presence in the wine-dominated local market.

Cheers to Nickel Brook

Nickel Brook plans to make a positive impact on Niagara's regional economic development by supplying jobs, providing local income, and increasing tourist opportunities. The brewery plans to hire 50 people locally to start, with the potential to grow. From there, the brewery is planning to move the Burlington operations into the Niagara region. Nickel Brook is also planning to invest a substantial $12 to $16 million into the brewery, on the 11 acres of land that has been purchased on Lakeshore Road in St. Catharines. The craft beer brewery will provide traffic for their own operation, but will also be able to bring additional traffic to the local wineries in the area, which are already seeing more tourist traffic. Thus, it's a win for everyone.

Are you excited to try Nickel Brook? Nickel Brook provides a variety of different beers, and offers another option to tour other than wine tours. The craft brewer will be displaying their award-winning craft beers to the public and breaking into a prestige market. You will be able to have a pint of beer with Nickel Brook Niagara craft beer within the next year. Cheers!
