Niagara's newest twin hotels, the River Road Niagara Falls Luxury Resort will soon tower over the Niagara Falls, Canada landscape.  The twin towers project was approved by Niagara Falls City Council back in 2012 and forsees the buildings being constructed on River Road.  The project is estimated to cost between $400-500 million to build and the structures will be 60 and 61 storeys tall.

The site of the tower hotel development is currently home to Michael's Inn, which is still operating today.  Michael's Inn is a three-diamond hotel which has been in operation for over 40 years.  Its proximity to the Falls and several important attractions has made it a popular destination for tourists, specifically young families.

The new hotel location is located a few kilometres away from the Rainbow Bridge international border crossing.  It is possible that the view of the lower tower to be constructed could be hindered by the border bridge.  Neighbourhood attractions include Hornblower Cruises and the Bird Kingdom.  Currently the closest hotels to the location are the Sheraton and Crowne Plaza Falls Avenue Resort.

Impact on the landscape and tourism industry

The River Road Niagara Falls Luxury Resort could provide up to $21 million in direct tourist revenue, $6.5 million in building development costs (to the Niagara Region and City of Niagara Falls), $5 million in property tax contributions, 1,300 initial construction jobs and up to 1,000 full-time employment positions.

Mr. Hunter Milborne, who is well known for his partnership in many large condominium developments across Canada is part owner of the buildings alonside businessman Ralph Terrio.  The hotel is aimed exclusively toward the Asian market in an attempt to stimulate an increase in tourist attraction and accommodation within the City of Niagara Falls.

Of the more than 14 million annual visitors to Niagara Falls, Asian tourists only count for 6-8%, as per Tourism Niagara Falls.  The goal is to increase that amount and attract more international tourists to this premiere, never seen before, all-inclusive hotel resort.  It aims to be a 5-star facility, hosting restaurants, a luxury spa, rooftop pool, an observation platform and a karaoke bar.
