Two weeks ago I covered the shipping containers community planned for Western St. Catharines, click here if you have yet to read that blog, and then late last week news of new luxury model homes at Sherkston Shores broke. I proposed the idea that shipping containers could be a viable cottaging option and while quite different in structure, Sherkston's new Black Diamond Edition homes, too offer a unique cottage-like option. The two bedroom, 540 sq. ft. modular homes offer a new kind of luxury living at the Sherkton Shores Carefree RV resort.

Black Diamond Edition Homes

Ontario company, General Coach Canada designed and built the Black Diamond Edition homes for the resort. The company is a pioneer in the mobile home industry, you may have seen some of their cabin builds if you've recently visited Bissel's Hideaway. The homes coming to Sherkston will be strictly luxury, with brand new appliances, two floors, an upper deck and customizable interior options. The one-of-a-kind mobile homes will cost you between $120,000 - $190,000. Taking a look at the current RV's for sale at the Lake Erie resort, this is well above the previously owned RV's, but well under the price of a Muskoka cottage. Sherkston's current for sale prices range from $29,000 to $90,000. The homes have the potential to bring an new type of clientele to the thriving resort.

Make-up of Sherkston Shores hospitality site

The resort boasts 560 acres along Lake Erie, that equates to over 1700 camp and RV sites. Over 1200 of those sites have owned mobile cottages while the rest make up seasonal RV and tent camping sites. The sites range from lake front to lake view to quarry view and settle around a on-site water park, play ground, organized sports facilities and a restaurant/snack bar. The resort was named one of the top in Canada and it's obvious why, it boasts incredible lake front that is only a 90 minute drive from Toronto and minutes from the U.S. border.
