Town of Lincoln Industry

The Region of Niagara is comprised of twelve municipalities in Southern Ontario. Each municipality represents a unique combination of agricultural, commercial, industrial, multi-residential, and hospitality opportunities. As part of an ongoing series, I have been presenting a market snapshot of significant areas within the Niagara Region. Today I will provide a market snapshot of the Town of Lincoln.

The Town of Lincoln encompasses the communities of Jordan, Vineland and Beamsville. It has made a name for itself as Ontario’s most active wine region as it is home to close to 50 wineries. The strength of its industry lies mostly in agriculture, but there are light manufacturing bodies located throughout.

A brief overview

The Town of Lincoln is located along the QEW between the cities of Hamilton and St. Catharines. The town is an hour drive from Toronto and 30 minutes from Buffalo, New York. Lincoln provides direct access to south Niagara via Highway 20.

The Town has convenient access to railway and international airports including, Hamilton Munro International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport and Buffalo Niagara International Airport. It’s unique position along the southern shore of Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment allows for successful agriculture, tender fruit farming and viticulture.

Small industrial sites

A small cluster of industrial properties lie along the South Service Road and Ontario Street in Beamsville. These sites includes a range of industries: pest control development, fabricating and welding, engineering and logistical services. Lincoln lacks dedicated parcels of land for industrial uses, as the majority of land in the community is dedicated to commercial, residential, and agricultural uses. The Town also lacks industrial purposed incentive programs, instead Lincoln’s community improvement plan focuses on providing incentives for business district improvements.

Industry strengths in Lincoln

Niagara has been named the Canada’s largest wine producing region.  This is due to its unique microclimate and the various soil compositions found throughout the region. The town of Lincoln has benefited from these unique characteristics and has built thriving agricultural and viticultural industries. In turn, Lincoln supports a strong wine and food tourism industry. Recent developments in the Town have included new public infrastructure, new wineries and two relatively new residential developments.
