Health Care is Getting a Boost From The New Niagara Falls Hospital

Owen Hughes

South Niagara is about to receive more health care services, thanks to the new Niagara Falls hospital project. The province of Ontario has now fully committed to its construction, and it’s time to move forward.

This project has been in talks for a few years, since the land was donated to the city in 2013. Along the way, the plan had been coming together as officials met every so often to discuss the next steps. Last month, Niagara Falls councillors announced that construction was officially planned for the new hospital.

South Niagara Gets a Win

The new hospital will be built at the corner of Montrose and Biggar Roads, where a sign currently sits informing passersby about the development project. This land was initially donated by the Grassl family, and then extra hectares were purchased for $11 million. This location allows residents in South Niagara to access urgent healthcare services without the commute time to St. Catharines.

A State-of-The-Art System For Niagara Residents

According to officials, this new hospital is going to provide state-of-the-art technology to replace the aging Niagara Falls General Hospital. The Welland hospital will remain open to provide extra services to the area’s residents, including an urgent care clinic. This project will contribute significantly to Niagara's growth and development, especially for those living and working in South Niagara.

New Regional Health Care Services Will be Unmatched

The new Niagara Falls hospital will offer services in South Niagara that aren’t offered at the Niagara Health System general hospital in St. Catharines. It is also expected to be bigger than the St. Catharines facility. There will also be many specialized services, such as dialysis treatments and geriatric services. This includes a stronger focus on mental health initiatives, addiction counselling, and traditional healing spaces.

Boosting The Niagara Economy

With a new hospital system in the region, the Niagara Falls economy is set to receive a significant boost from new job creation. From construction to employment of health care workers, the future looks bright for the region’s communities, and with more access to health care services, the area will be healthier than ever.

Construction is expected to be complete in 2023. This project is further proof that Niagara is constantly growing and expanding, and that investing in this area is a promising choice. Stay tuned for more investment opportunities in Niagara!
