The city of Thorold is growing at a higher than normal rate with hundreds of new homes under construction. Residential developments seem to be constantly popping up and numerous hectares of property have been cleared to build additional developments. With the population in Niagara increasing, developers are wasting no time. So why is there a sudden interest in Thorold? Many homeowners in the GTA are cashing in their $1.5-million home and heading down towards the Niagara Region where they can purchase a brand new home for $500,000.
Residential Developments Hitting Record High
In Thorold, there are numerous new developments under construction. A few of the new subdivisions being built or expanding include Merritt Meadows, Port Robinson Estates, and Rolling Meadows. There are over 1,000 new homes being built within these various subdivisions. With the constant expansion in the City of Thorold, it seems that this once considered small town is gaining recognition and becoming more popular amongst families.
Why Thorold?
The City of Thorold has various benefits for families looking to enjoy a quieter life than what the GTA has to offer. Nestled along the Welland Canal, this quaint city offers a wide variety of amenities and is adjacent to a couple major cities. The city is also home to Brock University, making it a perfect place for families to relocate if their children are considering a post-secondary education. The city has spent a considerable budget on adding tremendous trails throughout the city for those who enjoy cycling, walking or running. Thorold is also conveniently located moments away from Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake, making the possibilities endless for families as they seek the perfect weekend activities.
Thorold Expansion
In recent articles, it has been noted the population of Thorold is approximately 18,800. By 2041, the population of Thorold is expected to reach nearly 30,000 residents. Almost doubling in population, the city has to create room for their constant expansion. The region as a whole is also expected to grow to a population nearing 610,000. Not only is the city of Thorold on an upward incline, but the region as a whole is noticing a considerable amount of growth.
The sudden interest in Thorold has caused a higher than normal increase in developments being built throughout the city, with smaller infill developments in existing neighbourhoods, and full scale neighbourhood expansions in the south undeveloped ends of the city. These new developments are big investment wins in Niagara, adding a boost to the economy and helping bring more residents to the area. Hopefully, with the population increase in the city, there will also be an increase in new businesses in Thorold.
