The Brock Goodman School of Business is set to grow by nearly 27,000 sq. ft. It’s a $22 million dollar expansion that will see the at capacity Taro Hall completely renovated and enlarged. The project will go to tender in May followed by construction in June.
The expansion is necessary to accommodate interest in Canada’s fastest growing business school. The new design provides the school with a landmark home in the centre of the Brock campus.
Architecture and design
The University opted to expand instead of relocating the business school as it sits in the centre of the campus and is well connected to other areas of the school. The original design and build was completed in 1990 by Moriyama & Teshima Architects. Names of the architects for the new renderings as seen above, have yet to be released. Diamond Schmitt Architects worked with Brock on their last expansionary project.
The building will expand from 50,526 sq. ft. to 76,758 sq. ft. The focal point of the new building will be a two storey glass atrium that will look out to Brock’s new Maj. Gen. Sir Isaac Brock statue.
Major new additions include:
- new/expanded Bloomberg research lab
- 6 new classrooms
- new large board room
- 5 interview rooms, with new technology and fixtures
- engagement atrium
Existing spaces will be extensively renovated with new flooring, fixtures, technology, furniture and lighting.
Development cost and donations
So far Brock has raised 85% of the $22 million needed. The Ontario government delivered $10 million and generous donations have also been received from The Goodman Family Foundation, Cooper Wealth Management, BMO Financial Group, KPMH, Wormald, Masee Keen and Lopinski LLP and the Co-op Accounting class of 1984.
The school is hoping to complete the expansion and renovations by September of 2018. This is Brock’s second major development and expansion in the last two years, the Marilyn I Walker School of Fine & Performing Arts a $45.5 million development opened in September of 2015.
