The multi-residential market in downtown St. Catharines continues to expand as the Queenston Residences enter into the market. Construction is well under way on the incoming student residence, so much so, that it will likely to be the first student residence development of three, to open in downtown.

The new Queenston Street based building is strategically located close to the corners of Geneva St., St. Paul and Niagara St. making it a short walk for students to the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. It is just out of the downtown core, and located along a mixed-use corridor that is need of revitalization.

The Queenston Residences Inc. Property

The official address for the building is 34-36 Queenston Street. The property was once home to CHSC 1220 radio, but in 2008 due to mounting arrears, the building and it’s contents were sold off. The old radio station has been bulldozed to make way for the 4 storey, 23 unit student residence. Weather has delayed construction on the building but, the owner hopes to have it ready for lease in January.

The residence will be about half the size of Penn Terra Group’s Lake Street and James Street residences which will house 58 and 52 residences respectively.

The Queenston Residences are just Phase 1 of an envisioned development. Phase 2 will see a second residence on the Division Street side of the property. This residence will be much larger, at a proposed 8 storeys.
